Grades 10-11

During the tenth and eleventh grades, students broaden their course of study in high school and deepen their understanding of core content such as mathematics and literature. Personal motivation and perseverance are often challenged by difficult coursework and ever-changing peer relationships. Students will participate in state CAASPP testing in 11th grade. They should also have positive self-esteem and the motivation to succeed in various areas of their lives.

Academic Decathlon promotes educational experience for teams of high school (9th-12th) students to compete in ten academic events and a super quiz centered around a competition theme. Students of all GPA levels can compete. The goals of the Academic Decathlon are to encourage students to develop a greater respect for knowledge, to promote wholesome inter-school competition in academic areas of study and interest, to stimulate intellectual growth and achievement, and to encourage public interest and awareness of outstanding programs in secondary schools.

Mock Trial

Through the collaboration of SBCSS and the office of the San Bernardino County District Attorney, the Mock Trial program provides high school (9th-12th) students with a working knowledge of legal institutions and the judicial system. Students research a case developed by the Constitutional Rights Foundation and prepare for trial as attorneys, witnesses, defendants, bailiffs, and clerks. Local judges, prosecutors, public defenders, and private attorneys volunteer their time to provide guidance in courtroom procedure and trial preparation. These volunteers preside over the trials and score the events.
