Grades 7-9

Independent learning, personal motivation, and leadership skills continue to develop in this grade band. Students are encouraged to think independently and express their opinions, maximize their potential and maintain positive relationships. Students in this grade band need to pass Algebra I or Integrated Math by the end of 9th grade. They also will have an increasing awareness and acceptance of differences in people.

San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools has put together Evidence-Based Practices Playlists. These playlists include many evidence-based practices for educators. The Student Group Focused evidence practices include: Students with Disabilities Suspension, Students with Disabilities Pupil Engagement, Students with Disabilities English Learners Progress, Students with Disabilities Academic Progress, Homeless, Foster Youth, English Learners. The Performance Indicator Focused Playlists include: Math, Literacy, Early Literacy, College and Career Readiness, Chronic Absenteeism. The Root Cause Analysis Inquiry Guide: 2022-2023 Special Education Common Problems of Practice Edition is a supplementary resource designed to support teams in conducting root cause analysis investigations that incorporate qualitative and quantitative data. The intention of this guide is to support school teams in identifying the causes behind problems in their Special Education programs. The ultimate goal is to successfully address the common issues that plague our school systems and improve outcomes for students with disabilities. This 2022-23 guide was developed by the System Improvement Leads.

Summer of CS Professional Learning Opportunity

Seasons of CS is a research-backed professional learning model for K-12 educators, paraprofessionals, administrators, and counselors who are interested in bringing computer science to their students. The goal of this program is to expand systematic capacity for equitable, scalable, and sustainable computer science education in California. In-person and virtual Summer of CS workshops are available for all grades K-12. Most workshops are 3-day or 5-day workshops. Academic year support is also included at no cost. Classroom educators and paraprofessionals will receive a $175 per day (6 hours) incentive for active participation. Due to capacity constraints, you may register for only one workshop.

In response, the CDE developed the California Practitioners’ Guide for Educating English Learners with Disabilities to provide information on identifying, assessing, supporting, and reclassifying ELs who may qualify for special education services and pupils with disabilities who may be classified as ELs. Further, the publication provides a deeper dive into accessing actionable examples of how evidence based pedagogy and practices may be implemented in districts, schools, and classrooms to positively impact multilingual and English learner students.

The California Department of Education (CDE) developed a series of videos demonstrating integrated ELD instruction and its related designated ELD instruction during ELA, mathematics, and science. The Integrated and Designated ELD Video Series demonstrates the relationship between the California English Language Development Standards (CA ELD Standards) and the state content standards. When used in tandem, English learner students build English proficiency, refine academic use of English, and access subject area content in transitional kindergarten/kindergarten through grade twelve.

Engage students in a fun a creative Cyber Escape room experience where they are able to incorporate critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, and communication skills as they work through a cybersecurity learning experience. As part of the Inland Empire Cyber-Security Initiative (IECI) led by Cal State San Bernardino (CSUSB), San Bernardino County - Alliance for Education was funded to promote cyber-related skills and cyber career awareness for upper elementary & middle school students over 2 years. The idea of the Cyber Escape Room facilitated this objective in a fun, and age-appropriate manner. In collaboration with SBCSS Digital Learning Services, the Cyber Escape Room came to fruition.
